5 Homemade Clove Skin Toners For Young & Beautiful Skin

Cloves are a tiny kitchen spice with a big reputation in DIY skincare—mainly because they’re naturally rich in antioxidant compounds and have a warming, clarifying feel. Used the right way (mild, water-based, and well-diluted), clove-infused toner can help your routine feel fresher, more balanced, and “tighter,” especially when paired with ingredients that target common concerns like dark spots, large pores, early wrinkles, dullness, and dehydration.

1) Clove + Potato Toner (Dark Spots & Uneven Skin)

Ingredients Required

  • 1 small potato, peeled and grated (or blended)

  • 1 tsp whole cloves

  • ½ cup water

  • 2 tbsp rose water

  • 1 tbsp aloe vera gel

  • ½ tsp vegetable glycerin (or 1 tsp honey if you don’t have glycerin)

Procedure

  1. Add cloves + water to a small pan. Boil for 2–3 minutes.

  2. Switch off the heat, cover, and steep for 15 minutes. Strain and cool fully.

  3. Squeeze fresh potato juice from grated potato (strain through a clean cloth).

  4. Mix potato juice + clove water + rose water in a clean bowl.

  5. Whisk in aloe vera gel and glycerin until the toner looks smooth and slightly silky.

  6. Pour into a clean spray bottle and refrigerate.

Instructions

  • Apply on clean skin using cotton or by spraying and patting gently.

  • If your skin is sensitive, use at night only.

  • Start 3–4 nights/week, then increase if your skin tolerates it well.

  • Shelf life: 2–3 days in the fridge (fresh potato juice spoils quickly).

Benefits

  • Helps improve the look of dark spots and uneven tone over time

  • Makes skin look fresh and brighter

  • Adds light hydration without heaviness

  • Helps skin feel clean and refined

  • Works well before a simple moisturizer

  • ½ tsp glycerin (or 1 tsp honey)

Procedure

  1. Rinse rice well and soak it in ½ cup water for 20–30 minutes.

  2. Strain the water—this is your rice water.

  3. Separately, prepare clove water (boil 2–3 minutes; steep 15; strain; cool).

  • Helps skin feel soft, supple, and smooth

  • Improves the look of dullness

  • Gives a more even, polished finish

  • Supports “young skin” maintenance and daily freshness

Quick Tips for Best Results

  • Keep clove infusions light (don’t overboil or add extra cloves).

  • Always do a patch test for 24 hours.

  • Use clean bottles and store in the fridge.

  • If stinging happens, dilute with rose water/aloe water or stop use.

Important safety note: Clove can be irritating for some skin types, especially if the infusion is too strong or if you use clove essential oil (which is far more concentrated than whole cloves). Always do a patch test, keep the infusion mild, avoid the eye area, and don’t apply on broken or irritated skin. If you feel burning or persistent redness, stop using it and rinse with cool water.
